Hidden rental fees are extra costs for renting an apartment that are often not disclosed to a renter outside of the apartment lease. Some common hidden fees are move-in fees, elevator reservation fees, pet fees (or pet rent, which is a recurring cost), parking costs and fees, administrative fees, and renters insurance payments (if required by the landlord).

➢ Pet fee
Many of these are one-time, upfront costs for a renter. This does not discount the fact that each of these fees can be upwards of $100 on its own. Those costs, paired with a possible security deposit, first month’s rent, and an application fee could turn an affordable apartment into an expensive one.
